Cute, Or Not So Cute, Baby Furniture

by Jane Bear

If you are expecting a baby soon, you must be looking for new baby furniture. You will want to look closely and choose wisely the furniture for your baby because you will enjoy this stage for months to come. However, baby products are marketed very heavily making choosing confusing, especially for new parents.

The main furniture items you will need include a crib, changing table, a chest or dresser, a rocking chair and a car seat. The first thing you need to take into consideration when choosing baby furniture is that safety always comes first. Your baby will probably spend more time in the nursery than anywhere else, so making sure that the furniture is safe as it can possibly be should always be your first priority.

The baby crib is one of the first items you might begin shopping for. Keep in mind that the crib is possibly one of the most important purchases you will be making. This is the one thing you will be buying that you intend to leave your baby in for long periods of time and often unattended so necessary precautions should be taken to ensure the safest resting environment for your baby. Many of the cribs today are convertible, so they can be reconfigured into a day bed, toddler bed, and eventually a twin bed.

You’ll definitely need a comfortable place to change baby’s diapers conveniently; a changing table is most suitable for this. There are plenty of well-designed, practical, and attractive changing tables to choose from. As your baby grows, a changing table with railings and special straps to help hold your wriggling child in place can offer more security.

Instead of having clothes, diapers, nappies, shoes and other accessories scattered in different drawers and places in the house, it wise to invest in storage chests or closets where you can store the baby’s things in one place. Aside from that, this baby furniture will also make finding things much easier for the mother and can save a lot of time.

Considering the many sleepless nights there are in the future as a new parent, having a comfortable rocking chair in the nursery will be a lifesaver. A lot of parents prefer a baby rocker or rocker-glider with cushioned armrest. Feeding, playing, rocking to sleep, and a lot of bonding will take place in this chair, so you want it to be a very cozy place for you and your baby.

A car seat is one of the most important pieces of baby furniture that you can invest in. Unless you keep the baby in a car seat, it is very important that you never travel with a baby in the car. This can be very helpful in preventing injuries and harming the baby in the event of any accident. It is also the law in most states.

A bassinet, cradle, or basket can be a convenient and comfortable sleeping place for your baby during his first few months, instead of a crib. Strollers and high chairs would be a nice baby furniture addition when your baby gets a little older. Although a wireless baby monitor probably isn’t necessary, it is great for peace of mind. It would mean you could be off in another part of the house doing something, but still be monitoring your baby’s nap.
