Six Helpful hints About Potty Training Your Toddler
Training toddlers to use the potty can be one of the most challenging tasks for parents of toddlers. There are many books, resources, and products designed for potty training but it can still be challenging for many children and their parents. While potty training is a rite of passage for young children it should not be a harrowing experience.
Because potty training is challenging for most children at least at first, parents look for help when training their toddler. Here are six tips to make potty training easier.
Your child will be ready for potty training on their own time. While most parents would be happy getting potty training done as soon as possible, many children aren’t ready as soon as parents would like. It is very common for children, especially boys, to not be ready for potty training until age three or even three and a half.
If your child does not take to potty training right away there is nothing wrong with stopping and resuming it when they are ready. It your child is struggling it may be best to try again in a few months when your child is older and may be more receptive.
While accidents should not be rewarded, punishing or belittling a child is counter productive to potty training. Accidents should be handled matter-of-factly without criticism or making a child feel ashamed.
Using pull ups or other training pants that absorb like diapers may keep your child from learning quickly as they cannot feel the wetness. Cloth training pants or regular underwear that allow your child to feel wetness may help them learn better if they are having trouble learning with pull ups.
Many parents would not consider allowing their child to run around the house naked, but doing so can be a good potty training method. Many children find it easier to use learn to use the toilet if they are allowed to forgo pants and underwear.
Make our child feel good about using the toilet, but do not push them or stress out over it. Putting too much pressure on a child to potty train can be counter productive and cause them to have trouble learning.
Parents look forward to the end of diapers, but potty training offers new challenges to the parents of toddlers. Approach potty training only when your child is ready and be sure to use plenty of positive reinforcement and low pressure.
Where To Buy Baby Boy Clothes
It used to be that when looking for baby boy clothes there was not a great deal of choice. There were the usual pale blue or white footed sleepers but without any motif on them or for the summer there were all in one romper suits but again the choice was limited. And for sweaters, coats and hats to get any real choice you had to get out the knitting needles or get a doting Grandma to do some knitting for you.
Nowadays the choice of baby clothes for boys is nearly as great as for baby girls. Gone are the plain pale blue or white, now there are vibrant colors like orange, green, purple and dark blues to name a few. But its not just the colors that have changed, so too have the range of styles available.
Alongside the greater choices in styles and colors, and probably the main driving force behind it, has been the rapid increase in the number of retail outlets selling baby boy clothes. From department stores (Sears, J Penney, Macy’s for example) to clothing stores (Old Navy and Gap) and even onto designer stores, there are more and more places to choose from when you’re shopping for kids clothes and baby clothes.
And the “cool and trendy” marketing concept has even been applied to newborn baby clothes where Moms can now wrap their bundles of joy in completely coordinated outfits from head to foot. When you can find stores such as Gymboree offering ranges such as Little All Star and when you can’t help but see the number of themed clothes for babies aged three months and older, you know that the biggest problem will be settling on which baby boy clothes to buy!
Need some examples before you’re convinced? Well, take a look at Ralph Lauren and the trendy outfits they offer (see the rugby coveralls as just one example and the many styles of shortalls). Or try Ooh La La Mama for their designs. And how about the great baby boy clothes offered by Pottery Barn online?
Not every new set of parents can afford designer clothes for their baby but there are some really cute clothes available in stores such as Target and Wal-Mart. Here you will find the basic every day baby clothes to ones with motifs on them such Disney’s Winnie the Pooh characters, jungle animals, spaceships and of course cars and trains.
As part of the development of more and more variety, manufacturers and stores have produced baby-sized versions of popular adult clothes. So you can now dress you baby boy in jeans, khakis, long or short sleeved shirts, camouflage trouser and twill pants when your son has reached the age of about three months.
The change from plain old white and blue in such a short space of time is tremendous. Even socks can be matched to each outfit, whether the theme is sport or cartoons or almost anything. Baby feet can stay now warm as well as sending a fashion message!
So the variety of choices available in today’s baby boy clothes is virtually limitless. Only the constraints of time and budgets will prevent you from finding exactly what you want.
Essential Newborn Baby Clothes
Waiting for the arrival of your new baby is an exciting time and a time of preparation. The nursery needs to be decorated, the crib chosen and of course what newborn baby clothes will be needed for the first few weeks.
Now that there are stores like Babies r Us where every item you could possibly need to welcome your new home is available there is no need to trudge around lots of stores. And increasingly, more and more parents are using the internet to buy the necessary baby goods.
Expectant parents know that there are certain basic things they need when the baby comes home such as a crib, a stroller a car seat ad maybe a play yard. But what about the baby clothes? What are the essentials? How many do you need?
Whether you are buying baby boy clothes or baby girl clothes there is no specified number of each garment that is essential. It is important to have enough of the basic baby clothes for a day or two so that you don’t have to be constantly worrying about having to do the laundry every day.
Practical baby clothes are all that your newborn and you need in the early weeks there will be plenty of time for the more trendy baby clothes when you’ve both got the hang of this dressing business! Below is a list of ten items considered essential for a new baby.
* Make sure you have at least 5-10 onesies, either plain ones for use underneath pants and tops or the fancier ones as outerwear when its warmer.
* Baby one piece sleeper suits: 5-10 of these, which are ideal in the first few weeks for wearing during the day.
* Baby gowns: 4 or 5 because they are invaluable when you’re up in the night dealing with diaper changes. I would have made great use of these gowns when I had newborn babies.
* To soak up the dribble and drool that newborn babies produce, get 5-10 bibs.
* Buy a large amount of burp cloths so that your clothes can last for more than just one burp session!
* Socks: 5 pairs to protect against cold no matter how air conditioned or heated the house is.
* 2 hats – it depends on the time of year your baby is born and the climate you live in as to type of hat i.e. knitted hat or sun hat.
* 1 coat, appropriate to the weather and season where you live.
* 2-3 hooded towels – makes drying baby’s hair easier.
* Cotton mittens: 2 pairs at least, so that your new bundle of joy has less opportunity to scratch him or her self.
This is not a definitive list and of course you may find you need more of some things and less of others, depending on how often you plan to do the laundry. Obviously you will want other outfits for special occasions but, for basic everyday life, newborn baby clothes that make dressing and diaper changing easier are essential.
