Decorating Your Baby’s Room
One of the first things you get to start when you find out that you are going to have a baby is setting up the nursery. When it’s your first time too, there is so much excitement surrounding the birth that will be coming. Setting up a nursery is a very fun experience that shouldn’t add extra stress to your life. You can actually not need to finish the full room before you bring the baby home. But you can come up with design ideas and start a little simple adding on as you go and find other dcor you want to add in.
If you know the sex of the baby, it might make it easier to choose the theme and style for the nursery. If you are someone whom doesn’t want to find out then choose anything which is natural like greens, yellows, and even a few blues. You also can choose a great boarder which is gendered to either sex of the baby. Try Winnie the Pooh or even any other animal theme.
You then need to consider which pieces of furniture you would like to place in the babies room. Do you want metal, plastic, or even wood for the furniture pieces? Wood is usually the one which many choose but you have to watch out for possible splinters once your little one is up and around. Plastic on the other can could break or even tip easily if not bolted down properly. Metal is always cold and usually isn’t too attractive. My choice is wood since it’s very durable and also will match any color palette you choose for the nursery. Try purchasing items which are fire retardant in the nursery incase something would ever occur. Make sure the sheets fit snug around the mattress in the crib and that the furniture is bolted into the beams in the wall for support. Many nursery furniture items provide these safety hooks but you can buy them at your local store as well. Search catalogues and also department stores which have the nursery items set up so you can see what it will actually look like once it’s placed in the room.
A rug is a perfect idea to add to the nursery. With these rugs your little one’s knees will have some extra comfort as they grow. Try to choose a rug that is stain resistant, this will add to the life of the rug, and by all means try to avoid colors that will not hide a stain.
Think about how long your baby will be using the room as you decide on a theme. Will your ten-year-old hate you for putting Eeyore on his wall? How often are you willing to redecorate the room? Don’t forget, as your baby gets older, toys and clothes will come and go. Stuffed animals will accumulate and take over your house if you don’t plan carefully. Design your baby’s room with storage space for the future.
Lastly, if your new arrival is going to be sharing his or her room with an older sibling, consider how you can give both children a part of the room to themselves. It will be hard enough for the current occupant to have a new baby in their room, without feeling like they have completely taken over. Picking out a separate color theme for the new baby’s side of the room could be a good idea in this situation. Try involving the child who was there first so that they feel part of the process. Choose coordinating colors when you divide up the room to create a soothing effect and avoid visual chaos. Remember, your baby’s room should be a calming environment where everyone can relax. You will spend many hours in the nursery throughout the next few years, so make it a place that both you and your baby can feel relaxed.
